Remember that scene in Titanic where the musicians keep playing as chaos erupts around them?
That’s what it feels like in the comics industry right now. Publishers are scrambling as Diamond Comic Distributors – the industry’s largest distributor – just filed for bankruptcy. Right now, hundreds of creators are wondering if 6 months of their work will ever get paid for.
Our own Aaron Sparrow, who witnessed Diamond’s dysfunction firsthand while managing a major online retailer, tells a shocking story: A million-dollar account walked away because Diamond couldn’t even provide them with a new rep. That’s the kind of clownish mismanagement that led to today’s collapse.
But here’s where our story takes a different turn…
When I launched Tales of Khayr, I made a choice that seemed strange at the time. While other publishers rushed to get their comics into stores through Diamond, I chose a different path. I decided to connect with you directly, without middlemen.
Many thought I was Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. “You’ll never reach enough people,” they said.
But today, as the industry giants stumble, our story – your story – remains protected. Every haunting panel of Koja’s origin story (back when he was still known as Nikephoros, before joining the Ottoman forces), every meticulously crafted detail of 15th-century Constantinople coming “to life in all its diversity” is safely in our control. As Senior Reviewer D. Donovan noted, our “black and white graphic novel format with illustrations by Aurelio Mazzarra adds visual drama to the story” in ways that made The Lesser Evil “easy to pick up and hard to put down.”
Speaking of Koja’s story… when was the last time you experienced the trailer that started it all? Watch it again here: https://talesofkhayr.com/untold-tragedy/
Notice something new this time. Watch how each scene builds to reveal why Koja wears the mask – a mystery that “requires readers think about the evolving events, filling in word blanks based on battle portraits, character confrontations, and vivid action.” Feel the tension as Nikephoros faces his “foray into inky black darkness where ancient carvings portend dangerous threats.”
P.S. Your direct connection to Tales of Khayr is about to get even stronger. The books have arrived at the fulfillment center. We’re now building a secure, dedicated ordering page for Brotherhood of the Wolf: The Lesser Evil, inshaAllah. No middlemen, no complications – just you and the story you’ve helped protect.
Stay tuned.
