Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work in tech and achieve great success. But I always felt something was missing in the world of entertainment – authentic, positive portrayals of Muslims in dark fantasy stories.
That’s why I created the Brotherhood of the Wolf, a unique comic book series that fills this storytelling gap. And I’ve found that creating compelling stories ultimately boils down to one thing: authenticity.
To achieve this, we use what I call the 5 Pillars of Authentic Storytelling — grouped for easy recall as M.A.G.I.C (hold your fire, haram police).
M – Muslim Representation — Our stories feature Muslim characters in leading roles, portrayed realistically and positively.
A – Authentic Setting — We ground our tales in captivating historical periods often overlooked in Western media, like the Reconquista and Ottoman Wars.
G – Gripping Narrative — Our dark fantasy adventures keep readers on the edge of their seats while exploring deep themes.
I – Imaginative World-Building — We enrich our stories with regional folklore, arcane cults, and secret societies.
C – Cultural Bridge — Our comics appeal to both Muslim and non-Muslim readers, fostering understanding and appreciation.
Creating these stories hasn’t been easy. Finding artists and partners passionate about Muslim-positive narratives took time and effort. But the results have been worth it.
Soon, I intend to share more about our journey and introduce you to the talented team behind Tales of Khayr. But first, I want to get The Lesser Evil: Where Angels Fall, Monsters Rise short story in your hands.
Professor Aurelio–my superbly talented, slightly unhinged master artist–has just one more page of story content.
The cover–drawn by one of Professor Aurelio’s (semi-retired) teachers–is now colored.
You’ve never seen a story like this before.
I’m excited to share it with you.
All the best,
Wes
P.S. Remember, while our mission is to fill a storytelling gap for the Muslim community, you don’t have to be Muslim to enjoy our stories. We believe in creating entertaining, thought-provoking comics for everyone.
PPS. If you’re looking for a way to financially assist the people of Gaza without getting in trouble with the law, the Global Relief Trust (GRT) is an option. It’s a UK-government approved charity, has been distributing essential supplies such as food packs, water, and women’s sanitation packs despite the ongoing blockades. I’m not affiliated with them in any way but ask that you consider supporting them.
