Hollywood writer blames YOU for his failing industry

“I think it’s time to accept that a large part of the moviegoing public sucks sh*t, declared a Hollywood screenwriter recently.

It’s always someone else’s fault; they never consider that their writing might be the problem.

I’m not surprised a Hollywood writer blames the audience for the industry’s failures. The lack of self-awareness is amusing. The truth is, going to the movies has become a dead activity—it’s too expensive, and most films aren’t worth the price.

I mean, think about it.

Have you ever watched one of these newer movies (usually a sequel!) lately, and thought , “Eh, the last one was better.” If every experience is less satisfying than the previous one, eventually, you stop going. That’s what moviegoers have finally decided. They’re skipping these lame sequels and waiting for something that feels truly special.

Barbie, despite being based on an existing toy property, felt fresh and drew huge audiences because it looked new and exciting. And this is Barbie, we’re talking about here!

In the same vein, “The Brotherhood of the Wolf” aims to deliver something new and exciting for fantasy readers. Our series is designed to break free from recycled plots and offer a fresh experience that teleports you to a new world (think Dracula meets Suleiman the Magnificent). So, if you’re tired of the same old stories, you’ll want to dive into our world and discover a different kind of fantasy.

I mean, my artist– Professor Aurelio Mazzara–just finished the pencils for page 2 of my short story, The Lesser Evil: Where Angels Fall, Monsters Rise

The page isn’t special just because of the exquisite attention to detail and hypnotic composition….

The page is special because it is pregnant with high-stakes and emotion.

The sorrow and anguish of a desperate mother who wants to save her son sucked me in to such an extent that I wanted to escape out of the sheer horror of it…..

But I wanted to stay just to see what happens next—and I wrote the darned script!

Aurelio himself admitted that this is the best “acting” he’s ever drawn for a group of characters in his 20+ year career as a comic book illustrator. Considering that he drew for Disney, Marvel, IDW, Giochi Preziosi, Lion Forge, and Red Giant—that’s a big deal.

Now, you might be wondering: “Wes, what in the world is motivating you–a Palestinian who worked in the software world–to create this one-of-a-kind comic book series?”

My About Page answers that very question. Check it out here.
