Ever caught yourself zoning out in front of the screen, only to snap back and wonder, “What did my soul just digest?” You’re not alone.
Muslim men like us, raised in the Anglosphere, are in a unique bind. On one hand, we’re sick of the mainstream narrative that portrays us as terrorists, terrorists-in-training, or just plain lost. And on the other hand, our halal entertainment options are as dry as the Sahara desert.
It’s like we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place: either subject our souls to content that’s, frankly, pouring acid on our Islamic growth or switch off entirely. But who said these are our only options?
Enter the Halal-Tainment Jihad – the ultimate “middle finger” to the soul-sucking entertainment industry.
Imagine high-quality content that doesn’t just avoid haram themes but actively nourishes your iman. Think of it as the spiritual equivalent of a protein shake for your soul – minus the cringeworthy gym selfies.
That’s why I created the Brotherhood of the Wolf. It is a fun, relatable, and immersive dark fantasy series with complex characters and settings, with themes that resonate with Islamic values.
But here’s the kicker: this isn’t just about avoiding haram; it’s about taking a stand against the enemies of halal entertainment – aka the algorithm-obsessed tech bros, the Zionist Hollywood execs, and the embarrassing influencers who think they’re above the deen. As our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing upon him) taught us, “Whoever amongst you sees a wrong, let him change it with his hand…” It’s our communal obligation to seek alternatives, to build them if they don’t exist.
The Halal-Tainment Jihad is our collective effort to not just complain about the lack of halal entertainment but to create it. To not just passively consume content but to actively engage in shaping a culture that aligns with our deen.
No more sitting back and accepting what’s served.
It’s time to take control.
But how, you ask?
This was the same question I asked to myself at the start of this transformative journey. I have to give thanks to Allah first and foremost, then to Safina Society, which is not just a cause, but a legacy of Islamic enlightenment and social change. They are shattering stereotypes, bridging divides, and embodying the true essence of Islam’s compassion and community spirit.
If you’re reading this email, you’re obviously interested in joining a group that enjoys dark genre content aligned with Islamic values. And you will soon, inshaAllah.
Watch this space.
But another way to take control is to support groups like the Safina Society in their dawah efforts. How can you do this? Support institution-building. By contributing to the renovation and programming of the Safina Society Urban Da’wa Center in New Jersey, you’re not just filling bellies and renovating buildings– you’re a warrior contributing to the battle for the soul of America.
It’s not just about what we avoid; it’s about what we create, together.
