Amazon just made your books disappear

When it comes to owning your books, you can’t overstate the importance of control.

That is, how exactly do you ensure that the books you buy are truly yours?

This week, a common problem surfaced: Amazon is removing the ability to download Kindle books to your computer.

I find this troubling because it locks you out of your own purchases. If you close your account or lose access, your books disappear.

That’s why it’s critical to demand real ownership—whether it’s physical books or DRM-free ebooks.

You don’t need to abandon Kindle entirely. But it’s enough to simply ask that if buying isn’t ownership, then how can piracy be theft?

Notice and study how great companies—and even indie publishers—make it clear that you own what you buy. Because it’s so important to give consumers a reason to trust them.

All the best,
Wes

P.S. Speaking of ownership – our web designer is hard at work building the sales page for The Lesser Evil. Soon you’ll be able to own a physical copy of this dark fantasy comic that’s truly yours forever. No digital restrictions, no account required – just pure storytelling that you can hold in your hands. Stay tuned for the launch!
