about your relapse…

ESCAPISM FILES: CASE 02

Omar didn’t lift his eyes from the dim rectangle of his screen.

Omar?” Zaid said.

“This room’s dead to you, Zaid,” Omar told him. “But there are waifus…Nier Automata waifus, Genshin Impact waifus, Atelier Meruru waifus. No exaggeration. Your collection’s worth infinite obsession. Shows you don’t watch anymore because you’ve entered the phase of having given up watching. Hold that for ten years and you’ll hit the next phase—going back to it. Giving up anime feels like maturity until you see it’s a false summit. I’ve seen it countless times.”

He didn’t argue. He never does when it cuts too close.

Zaid scrolled past a Demon Slayer clip with an unsteady hand. Two years clean, and still he twitches when the algorithm tempts him. Longish, thinning faith. Nicotined optimism. A man who prays 10,000 salawat a week just to outrun his own impulses.

“There was a time,” Omar said quietly, “when your followers called you Sun God Nika.”

He winced.
Now they only know the One Piece version.

Omar knows what scares him:
If Omar binges again (really binges) there’ll be no salvaging the thin membrane between Omar and his conscience. Anime is a monster, fact. Which makes Zaid, the reformed one, an accessory after the fact.

Omar’s viewing history is still full of waifus. Zaid knows it.
Omar knows it.

Everyone has that one thing they drift back to, even when they swear they’re done with it.
That one habit that pulls them off the path in quiet, humiliating ways.

So let me ask you what Zaid didn’t ask Omar:

What’s the thing you keep slipping back into, even though you know it costs you something?

Reply and tell me.
